I have a 91 Ranger with a 4.0. Last week my son basically brought it home running on fumes. When my other son tried to start it the next morning, it would not start. We put a few gallons of gas in it and purged the fuel line at the schrader valve. Still won't start. I pulled a hose off the air intake and gave it a small squirt of starting fluid. Started right up and ran great. Once warm, it starts fine for the rest of the day, but the next morning, we have to give it some starting fluid to get it going again.
Here is what we have done so far: Purged the fuel line at the schrader valve. Checked fuel line pressure, 40psi. Checked the fuel pressure regulator vacuum line, no fuel coming from the vacuum line. Cycled the key several times prior to trying to start, no success. Checked for engine codes, none exist.
The pump runs and shuts off normally when the key is on. The pump assembly itself has been replaced fairly recently along with the filter.
Any ideas? I'm about ready to get an ether start from an old 70s vintage diesel truck and hook it up! (not really!)
