'84 F-150 w/302 & C-6 auto ->6cyl w/Manual for gas milage?
26yrs running 1984 F-150 w/5.0L and C-6 auto. Time 2 change trans and eng, so bought parts truck w/manual 3spd and 4.9L w/motor blown rod thru block. Now plan purchase of rebuilt 4.9L motor thru: OEM Engines and am searching for best manual tranny to fit now 300/6 bell housing, drive shafts, motor and tranny mounts, etc. Prefer OD trans for Better gas milage, plus prefer manual trans anyway. What manual trannys can I put in here w/best OD ratio? If you know more about such swaps, electrical issues, have experiences w/same, solid ideas, suggestions:
I am all ears
I reacently swapped a c6 for a zf5. It was very straight forward and i noticed a true 3 mpg improvement on the highway, although mine was with a 302. All i needed for the swap was the tranny, crossmember and lengthen and shorten my driveshafts.
Also if you decide to get a hydraulic clutch setup then i would strongly suggest you get the firewall reinforcement plate, whether it be a factory ford one or one of the really nice pieces the powerstroke guys are fabbing up and selling.
