I needed a new windshield. A chip repair I had done about three years ago failed. A crack started running down from the chip. I figured if I was going to get one I might as well go with the one that says Super Duty on it. I told the shop I would pay the difference. He said there won't be a difference because he would take care of it. So since I have non-deductible glass coverage I got it at no cost. They came to the house yesterday morning and had it done in less than an hour. Of course I watched the whole thing and they were true professionals. Hosed it down today and no leaks.
For the life of me I couldn't get a good pic from outside but this pic from inside tells it all.
You fixed the windshield but broke your camera, now the date is backward!
Looks good Robin, I had mine installed Monday. I also have no deduct, and USAA said no problem getting the monogram windshield.
I got the clear instead of the tinted top strip (only because it was in stock, and was planning on doing my own tint)
But after looking at it, the "Super Duty" is much more visible without the tint, so I may leave it be
The tech was super nice and brought me out to the shop to show me the trouble spots on the Super Duty/F150 trucks where the glass is prone to leak. In all four corners Ford uses a seam sealer where the body welds come together, and over time it drys out and cracks, and the windshield moldings hold in moisture causing rust in those areas. (last pic)
He was nice enough to sand/prime/and reseal the four corners for me.
I can imagine that the northern (salty) trucks have a bigger issue with these areas
By seeing the SUPERDUTY across the top means that it is OEM glass.
I was wondering about that On the phone my insurance co said that vehicles less than two years old get factory glass, the older get aftermarket glass, however the tech told me that it was Ford glass
I don't see Ford written anywhere...I guess it's neither here nor there, but to put icing on the cake I slapped on a factory sticker compliments of "snowseeker"
Where did snowseeker get the sticker. I have that sticker on mine but also need to change my windshield. I was thinking about getting that same windshield. I believe its 2004. Thats the one my son has.
Thanks for sharing the windshield info Frank. Always wondered why they were prone to leaking in the corners, now I know

Chet
A friend of his had a bunch made quite a while ago, He may still have some
Yep, 2004. I told my insurance co. 2008 just to be safe, and Safelite called me today wondering why my vin didn't match the year..., I guess this is a popular item on older trucks, It wasn't an issue.

Can you remember the name of the urathan and primer they used ?
I had my shop install the same in my truck.
Hello Mark,
I have no idea what products they used. I did see one of the guys applying a clear product to the inside edge and he told be it would slightly etch the glass and enhance the adhesion of the sealant.

I got a good look at the windshield frame this time. This is the third windshield for my truck and didn't bother looking last time. From your info I'm glad I looked this time. It looked new. No signs of rust. But after all this is Arizona.

Now that I know you are here I will come down, but in my car or Jeep.
