I wish I knew about those Super Duty windshields when I got mine replaced 2 years ago. You kinda ruined my day.
Any golf ball sized rocks handy? Looks more realistic when you throw a rock at it rather than hit it with a hammer. Remember, you didn't hear this from me.
I just found out from Safelite that they are now offering the SUPER DUTY logo windshield as a 2002 year model option. Also discovered a ZERO deductible through my insurance company, so I'm getting a new view on Wednesday at no cost!
Geico. We've only been with them for less than a year, but so far, they've come through for us quite well. My daughter had an accident last week, and it was a toss up as to whether or not her car would be totaled (no injuries), and we simply communicated to Geico that our (her) current circumstances made it more desirable to total the car as opposed to repairing it, and they had no problem making it happen because it was so close... besides... it was the other person's fault anyway, so their insurance company is going to have to pony up.
I tried this same thing last year and I was told no by my insurance co. I was going to pay the difference but it was over twice the price so I opted not to. I should have shopped around I guess. Bummer, I am jealous.
If I ever replace my windshield, I'm going with the 2014 and up Accoustic "Sound Shield" version. I couldn't care less whether or not it says "Super Duty" on it. I'd be after that extra layer of sound attenuating lamination.

I was going to ask about that one!
Which years does it fit?

My 99 was $150 cash from safelite. Carlite brand.
F*** the insurance ppl.

SoundScreen windshields have been slowly rolled out across many Ford platforms. Our 08 Escape, the first year of that bodystyle, didn't have one. Our 11 Escape, the last year of that bodystyle, does, and boy howdy that acoustic glass makes a noticeable difference. Ford didn't get around to making the SoundScreen available in the Super Duty until 2014.
I'm assuming that SuperDuty windshield is the same from Early 99 to and through model year 2016. So under that assumption, the 2014 windscreen should fit our 99-03. I could be wrong though, so check and make sure before paying the extra $100-$200 for the acoustic version.
I do know that the rear window changed from an inset gasket mount to a flush surface adhered urethane mount at some point in the SuperDuty evolution, but I don't know if that involved any stamping changes in the pinch flanges.
I do know that Ford has changed the A pillar stampings over the years. For example, the 99-early 02 A pillars have a different inset square nut spacing for the grab handle than the late 02 through 05 models. The metal stampings and weld points are different, but the windshield remained the same... therefore, any changes made more recently, such as in 2011, still may not have any effect on the windshield.
It can be a mistake to assume that no easily discernible external differences means no differences... just like it can be a mistake to assume that a few differences mean non compatibility. Therefore it is best to verify on a part by part basis. In this case, from what I researched a few months ago, there is no difference in windshield fitment. But please don't take my word for it.
I received bad information from Safelite. Geico is now playing "crawfish" on me and can't even seem to get me an estimate on "out of pocket" cost difference for the '08 logo'd glass because it is OEM from a different year and does not match my VIN.
I'm starting to go down a different path now... I'm talking with a local vendor who carries the Carlite SoundScreen, and they have verified that the "block size" for the 2014 SoundScreen is exactly the same as that for my 2002. The only question remaining is that of curvature. The man I spoke with is going over this issue with one of his technicians to see if he can get some verification regarding curvature. The cost difference for my out of pocket on the Acoustic glass would be a tad under $100 more than what Geico will cover for the replacement.
If I can get confirmation about the SoundScreen fitment, I'm going to do that instead of the logo'd glass!
