Well I am finally getting close to dropping off my beast for the cummins/manual swap. I would like opinions on what transmission I should use. I was thinking of nv4500 or ZF S6 or 5 speed. The cost of the swap seems to be the same regardless. Also I was wondering what size lift I would need to got 1 size bigger than my 285 75 R16 I currently have. I will also have a ranchhand or similar front bumper and a hd rear bumper. I'm assuming the extra weight will effect the current stock springs. I'd also like to improve the ride somewhat at the same time. The vehicle is a 2002 4x4 that currently has a v10. It will hopefully tow a large pontoon boat and/or trailer someday. Thanks for the help
Wow that is awesome. I'd love to do that. I can't really help with the transmission question but I am wondering how much you are going to pay to get all of this done and where you are going to get it done?
The only thing I can say about the transmission is I'd want as many gears as possible. Five sounds good, but six sounds even better.
I think a 4" lift and 315/75R16 would be best, with all that power and the control of a manual transmission, you'd have no problem turning those tires.
it'll be around 20k out the door for the swap but that includes the price of a rebuilt cummins and hd transmission. Thanks for the advice on the lift, it's not so much that I want it to sit alot higher but I wanna go at least the next size higher in tire and want to improve the ride as it seems like I hit the bump stops on every bump.....
An Excursion is 2" lower than a stock F250... so a 4" Excursion lift only puts you 2" over a stock F250. It'll look a lot taller, and better, than it does now but it should ride way better than stock if you get a good kit. Get a BDS or Pro Comp. I like BDS, lots of guys here swear by the good ride and handling of Pro Comp.
Also the place I'm looking at is autoworld out of MT. I may look at v/b or X/B but I am toying with the idea of goin all sprring in the rear and removing the block. I'm thinkin I would need a 4 or 5 inch lift to equal a v swap.....
