Hey just registered here to make sure im on the right path.
I have an 01 Explorer with about 112,000 miles(180,000km) and just recently it started to have a hard time shifting from 2nd to 3rd, it will rev up from 3000 rpm to around 4000 give or take rpm before it goes into gear.
I have read that it is more than likely the Valve body gasket, so i am hoping to do that this week. I just want to make sure that is what it is before I start the job.
Also when doing it anything else I should do while I have it all part? I'm planning on doing the transmission filter while its all apart but other than that im not sure on what to do or needs to be done.
I'm not sure which trans you have, but sometimes the 2-3 shift accumulator spring/pistons in some of the Ford trans are the cause of this problem-I would suspect that over a valve body gasket-Also I would highly recommend that you switch to full synthetic fluid while doing anything to the trans-not sure IF you can drain the converter on your trans, but if you can I would.
I'm sure others will chime in on this.
i do believe that the one way clutch js going out same thing happened to my 2000 and you will probly want to rebuild cause it is the last part to come out
