Do the general add a leafs require the spring pack to have to be taken apart or can you install them easily over the existing pack?
The short spring just adds between the overload leaf and the bottom leaf. If you choose to purchase the long spring the 2 leafs will have to come apart.
do it! you will not regret it! the ride empty/ loaded is soo much better then the stock ride. most people think that adding one leaf is going to completely ruin your ride.. but after i did this i loved how it rides around empty and loaded, its a more firm feel and a lot less boucing around in both conditions. other then adding a H&S programmer and deleting all the dpf bs, this is the best thing iv done to the truck and it only cost $170! so worth it!!

Thanks for the info, but I am still confused. Do the ubolts and axle have to come off? My f 250 doesn't have have the top overload spring, just two leafs on top of the really thick and short bottom one. I want to add this myself but don't want to take the rear axle off.

If you want to add a leaf u have no choice to take the axel off. It's hard to explaine, u take it off but u don't... The only thing stopping u from "taking it off" is u dont disconnect it from the drive shaft. Jack ur truck up from ur rear axel high enough so u can put a jack under ur hitch (that's what I did anyways) you can put jacks under the frame if u wish. Let the truck down till it rests the hitch on the jacks but keep support on the axel till u take u bolts off. Take ubolt nuts off and let the jack down, then u can start playing with the springs. I took the whole leaf pack out, put my new one in then reinstalled the whole pack, the whole process takes a while but it's worth it!!! If this doesn't make any sense, send me a pm n I can help more on the phone.

This makes sense now, thanks. Sounds like this can be done pretty easily with one person. Is there any issues with realignment? I don't want to add the 4in block or new ubolts if I don't have to...or should new u bolts always be used?
adding one more leaf will raise the rear end up around 1". i took the 2" block out and installed a 4" so i had roughly 3"s of added height after the process was complete. if u add the 4" block u will have to get longer ubolts. truck sat perfectly level before when it was stock, and it looked retarded after i installed the leaf and block, it was driving down the road like a gm and it looked like crap, so last friday i went and got a front 2.5" leveling kit from pro comp for $180 and it leveled the truck back out. the back still sits a bit higher.. .5" roughly but it looks much better. it will also help with snow plowing being now the plow frame will be 2.5's higher off the ground now so thats good for me. also i had no issue with realigning the axel. but the truck goes in for alignment today since i put the front leveling kit on.
I know this is an old thread, but I have decided to add a leaf to the rear of my '12 4x4 dually. I was just wondering what people have used, a long or short leaf. I plan on going through General Spring to get them, just curious as to which one to purchase if it matters that much. Thanks
Thanks blue oval. I really like the truck, just needs to sit about 1" higher in the back. I take it everything is still good with the add a leaf i suspect? No problems
