Do you know what a normal idle speed would be for a 96 psd? Mine idles at about 1200 rpm which seems a little high - does the computer set this?
Also can't get my darn drain plug to seal properly - new copper washer, anyone tried PTFE tape? thanks for the help
1200 rpm is the speed most tuners use for a "high idle" tune. Stock idle should be around half that. Are you sure the truck doesn't have a chip in it and the chip is set to high idle? Is the truck new to you? Has it always done this?
As for the drain plug, mine was seeping a little too until I replaced mine with a Fumoto drain valve. Here is a link.
thanks for the quick reponse - I've only had the truck a short while so I don't know much of the history, it's always idled at this speed though. It has less than 70000 mies though and is set up for a fifth wheel so maybe someone chipped it?
Do you see a **** on the dash anywhere that you can turn? If not, you may have to pull the emergency brake off and look at the PCM to see if it is chipped. Three nuts to remove the e-brake pedal, then the PCM is right behind it. If the truck is chipped, there will be something sticking out the back of the PCM. If there is just a rubber plug in there, then is sounds like it is stock. Chip is all I can think of though since the idle speed is controlled by the PCM. Does the idle speed change when you put it in gear? Auto or manual?
