DeRusting and Soundproofing?
But i warn you i will be asking similar questions about similar products......Part 1-
So 1st, whats better to stop and prevent rust above the headliner, in the wheel wells, under the interior carpet, etc?
Rust Bullet? BEST PLACE TO BUY?????
OR!
POR 15? BEST PLACE TO BUY???????
Part 2-
Next! Sound proofing the cab. Id like my cab to be a little quieter, less hot, and vibration wise i could cut down on that a bit as well. And seeing i will be installing AC i need to insulate the firewall before mounting the unit and id like the air to stay in the cab
. I need to insulate above the headliner, behind the door panels, under all the carpet up to the fire wall. Now whats the best way of going about this?I like the sound of the DYNAMAT but do i really need to put Zilla Mat over it?
Part 3- Also which kit size is enough for a standard cab?
Dynamat XTREME
2nd link has steps in installing which products where
PDF filehttp://www.dynamat.com/download/2010...heet_Print.pdf
Then there is the Zilla Mat
Zilla Mat Extreme sound deadener
After reading it seems like DYNAMAT will work just fine on its own. Does anyone have any input on this at all?
Part 4-
Also! What can i spray or put in my door itself to preven rust and to help with the sound and vibration issue?
Part 5-
Again i also need a thread about how to install felt in the door and wind wings cuz my old rubber and felt it shot to heck
Some folks used the bubble or open cell insulation but IN MY OPINION, to get the best Cadillac quietness, you need to use the closed cell. The product I used weighs about 1 pound per sq ft and it is dense.
Now, I did use the zillamat on the doors and then covered it with the Dynamat DURALINER. 2 different products for different reasons. The MLV that I used on the floor is too heavy for the doors so in lieu of the MLV, I used the Dynamat Duraliner product which is made for the doors. The door kit has about 25 sq ft in it and designed for doors.
In regard to what to use to spray in the doors, etc., I used the Duplicolor Professional (not standard) rubberized undercoating that has the sound eliminator in it for under the cab and inside of the door cavities. I made sure to cover the drain holes with tape before spraying it, and then removing the tape. I didn't have any rust issues but if I did, I would have either removed the rust and/or treated with POR before applying the undercoating. I did not use any of the undercoating inside of the cab area. This worked well on my 72 and 74 trucks and am very happy with the results but I am sure others have different opinions regarding products. I tried to research all of the products in the market for superior results AND best pricing. Good luck and keep us posted!
