Okay so i have a 74' crew and im restoring the cab. the pillars are hollow so i was wondering if there is so sort of filler i could use to help dampen sound and help insulate it. i was thinking something like great stuff that expands and do it little by little to ensure it doesnt over expand and push the metal out. any input would be greatly appreciated.
Absolutely no!! Expanding foam will hold moisture and rust from the inside out faster than you can imagine. I've seen trucks in great shape with the cabs almost completely rusted apart from the inside because of this!
Don't worry about insulating the pillars for sound, they are not your big concern. There are several types of sound dampener that, when correctly employed, will reduce sound considerably.
Use something like dynamat, but dont buy actual dynamat, buy something like fatmat or edead, dynamat is way too expensive and its all the same. ebay has good prices on this stuff. Also on top of that you can use some heat sheild matting, helps with sound and heat control. I put the edead and matting on my roof, floor, back of cab behind seat, firewall, and doors and my cab is SOLID.
ya thats why i asked i knew it held moistureand thought it would cause rust. just wondering if there was another expanding anything to use because i dont want to pay the $$ to get my cab blasted and i was going to do it myself and i dont have a rotisserie to dump the abrasive out of the pillars.
