The only times I have seen mine come on is when my alternator dies. Just happened to me on the drive to Colorado, the abs light came on and I thought huh thats weird. 10 miles later my radio shut off and thats when I knew my alternator had died, another 10 miles down the road I made it to Sydney, NE and the NAPA got me a new one. I had 9.3 volts when I got to NAPA and my battery light never did come on.
I think if your front and back brakes are not proportioned it will trigger the light too. Have you done any inspecting of the brakes to see if you can see anything visual like a blown piston seal or something like that?
Brakes and alt are good. Light came on after my truck sat for a few days and has been on ever since. If it doesn't light up (did it a few times), I can feel what I think is the abs coming on after firm pushes on the brakes. Any ideas???
There are wheel speed sensors and a vehicle speed sensor(VSS) on top of the rear end. Any chance your speedometer is fluctuating too? I would start by at least pulling the VSS (One bolt and it pulls out) and possibly cleaning it or looking for metallic buildup. Beyond that you will need a diagnostic tool to really dig deeper.
Do you have 4 wheel ABS? The sensors in the front hubs work the same way and can be cleaned as well, the same way.
Speedo all G. I'll try cleaning the vss. Unknown if my truck is equiped with 4 wheel abs, thinking just rear. I was told the abs system has a seperate computer and needs a different scan tool to read codes, is that true?

That would depend on what tool you are currently using. You would need a different tool if you were using say a scanguage or something. But good diagnostic tools, such as AE or SnapOn can perform ABS diagnostics.
When I had this problem it turned out to be an easy fix. The wires running to the hub on the front right had come loose from the frame. This let them rub against the front tire when turning sharp. I spent a lot of time chasing around in circles before finding it while washing the truck. Check for frayed or broken wires, maybe you will get lucky like I did. Otherwise...... codes will help find the problem.
