carb problems

I have a 1976 F-150. My problem is adjusting the carb. one side of the engine blows out white smoke. does it need more fuel or less. Any advice on carb adjustment is greatly appreciated.

carb problems

Welcome to FTE-
I do need a little bit more info- how much white smoke, does it linger a little, only in certain weather conditions, etc. Also, have you already tried adjusting the idle mix screws?

It blows just enough to see it. I have adjusted the screws some but I am not shure what it needs. I don't think it is an engine problem because it still smokes the same when the engine gets hot, but I am a newby. I hope this helps some

That isn't a carb issue. Do a commpression check, and inspect you spark plugs while you are at it. You probably have a leaking head gasket.

Or it could be the vacuum modulator leaking a small amount of tranny fluid into the intake.

I agree with millertime300 you are most likely passing coolant into the cylinders

Redneck smoke diagnostic's

Black smoke - excess fuel running rich

Blueish white/gray smoke - oil burning

White smoke - coolant burning

If you run antifreeze in you radiator and let your truck idle in thedriveway for a while you might even notice the liquid that dips out of the exhaust is greenish.

Does it ever have trouble turning over after it has set for a while? Do you have bubbles surfacing in your radiator fluid?

Thumbs up carb problems

Thanks guys ...I think the consensus is the head gasket. It does blow out green antifreeze. It is leaky and old, so I am going to replace it and see if it improves.
