Carb problems

Have a 1978 F100 with a 351M that backfired thru the carb and had no acceleration. The distributor was stuck so we couldn't adjust timing so I have replaced that and reset the timing. We also rebuilt the carb but it still doesn't feel right. I wonder if I have the carb adjusted right. It was my first carb rebuild. How should I adjust the carb and fuel mixture screws. Go all the way in and then back em out? How far out? Anything else I might look for?
Thanks for any help..

Sounds like the timing chain jumped. How far out was the timing before you pulled the distributor? Did the poor running happen suddenly, or gradually over time?

Carb problems

It was by brother in laws and I always thought it was a dog but figured it was in the timing. I never checked the timing before pulling the distibutor so not sure about that. I did notice that after I reset the timing it seemed ok but then it died and started real hard so am going to check the timing to see if it changed.
