HIO the truck does wiggle a bit when i give it some throttle but i thought tht was just fords stiff engine mounts? Ill check tomorrow. If it is a engine mount would i be able to just weld the break?
It would be unlikely you could fix an engine mount by welding it. See, the engine mount, the assembly that bolts to the engine block, is physically isolated by hard rubber from the part that bolts to the perches. That's necessary to reduce'eliminate engine vibration directly to the chassis. Some vehicles today use liquid-filled engine and tranny mounts.
The engine mounts should have some give when ya rev it. However at speed with the rest of the driveline connected, it could be "torquing over" due to resistence exerted by the drivetrain when hard on the skinny pedal.
A couple of ways to check:
1. Jack up the driver's side the engine and evaluate how much it can be raised. Also look at the mount to make sure it hasn't separated. If it's alot, then ya might want to replace the mounts.
2. Bolt a chain or some sort of limiting strap to the driver's side cylinder head and the other end to a hole or around on the frame... take it out for a test drive. (Btw, tape up the chain or strap so it's not creating a hazard).
I don't presently own a bump side to get pictures of. I have actually decided to drive older stuff for a while and have a 58 F-100 I'm fixin on, and a 29 roadster pickup hot rod that's getting close to done after 7 years.
Hey guys i have a 71 f250. 360 engine stock carb and what not. My throttle has been sticking alot lately. What it has been doing is if i push the pedal in slowly (how i normaly drive) and it pushes in just fine till about 1/4 throttle. Then you have to push harder to get it past 1/4. And of course when you push it harder it jumps to about full throttle. Im guessing i just need to oil my throttle linkage.
Am i right about that? How can i clean and grease the linkage? I have the full 5 volume manual and all it says is " check linkage for sticking and binding" but nothing about how to correct and binding
Other than clean & lube, the only other thing I can think of would be to check for broken linkage clips. If one is broken, it might not be keeping the correct alignment for the rods & levers. Note that there are two types of linkage clips - right-handed and left-handed. It's worthwhile to keep a few spares of each in the glove box. Also, I think it's possible to make the linkage bind up and not work at all if you install the wrong kind of linkage clip.
I second the opinion about watching it operate while someone else is working the throttle for you. Try to teach them where the binding is that you've been experiencing, then for watch what's hitting what when they work the throttle.
