Hey guys i have a 71 f250. 360 engine stock carb and what not. My throttle has been sticking alot lately. What it has been doing is if i push the pedal in slowly (how i normaly drive) and it pushes in just fine till about 1/4 throttle. Then you have to push harder to get it past 1/4. And of course when you push it harder it jumps to about full throttle. Im guessing i just need to oil my throttle linkage.
Am i right about that? How can i clean and grease the linkage? I have the full 5 volume manual and all it says is " check linkage for sticking and binding" but nothing about how to correct and binding
Have you checked it with somebody pushing the gas pedal inside and you looking to see if its binding or sticking, the reason I ask is because I had the same problem I sprayed wd40 and nothing still the same,I changed the the whole linkage and still the same then I had my kid step on the gas pedal and thats wen I saw the problem my kick down rod had lost the plastic grommet at the carburetor end and had to much play that it would lean against the accelerator linkage that comes from the pedal and the part that treads on the linkage to adjust the length was catching the kick down rod causing it to bind but once I put the plastic grommet back no more play problem solved hope this helps
Good reply tas, LS having someone press the pedal while watching the movement should allow you to see anything causing an issue.
Then spray everything down good working it back & forth. Spray the hinges & latch while you are there. Make the hood move freely and the hood latch work with little pressure.
I don't intend to change the subject just a comment on Jowilker hood comment. I had a bad experience with spraying the hinges from my hood with wd40 now my hood wont stay up and it use to, So I had to use lots of soap to get rid of wd40 now it stays up a little better I am thinking about taking hinges of and hammering the rivets on an anvil to tighten up a little hopefully this will help it stay up, What do you think,I think it will work.
tas, I don't think the WD40 had anything to do with it, because I use it on mine regularly. You might want to start looking around for a replacement set.
I already have to use a crowbar/ tire iron to gold the hood up so ill deal with that later. And about the linkage ive greased it up with 3 in 1 oil and it has been getting a little better but it still has some rough spots
That contraption on the linkage called the trapeze is probably wore out. I'm not real sure what the purpose of it was, but it can be troublesome. You can just get rid of it and use a solid rod right from the accelerator arm to the carburetor. I've even used small aircraft cable and cable clamps in place of a rod.
If you insist on keeping it stock, I have a whole box full of trapezes.
By trapeze do you mean the bell crank on the firewall? It's purpose is to keep the linkage smooth when the engine moves in the mounts. A cable does the same thing and it's easier to install if you're not trying to be stock.

The "trapeze" is that linkage assembly that its bolted to the top of the intake manifold.
A broken motor mount can also cause the throttle to stick or bind up.
HIO the truck does wiggle a bit when i give it some throttle but i thought tht was just fords stiff engine mounts? Ill check tomorrow. If it is a engine mount would i be able to just weld the break?
Im 15 so my budget isnt the greatest. Ill get some pictures of the linkage and a video some time in the next few days
