Im going to check out this crank, cylinder head and block. the crank has to be a 1U right?? what's your opinion? what parts and casting nubers should I be looking for? apparently this block was supposed to go into a 74 f250..but the owner passed away so the wife is selling everything...she's asking $15,000 for the truck!
SCJ crank is stamped 1UA. The one in that ad is not a SCJ crank. It has the small weight on the counterweight. SCJ's do not have the CW there. That one is a 1U or 1UB CJ.
CJ heads are C80E-6090-N castings most of the time. Keep in mind they made these as service parts well into the later 70's. So date codes can be very late or not even on them. Not a big deal in a non numbers correct situation.
The block is the same as a CJ 428. 68.5 to 70 production. His ad says it's a 69. Service blocks were cast well into the 70's.
Check this site out. Mustang 428 Cobra Jet Registry click on "engine information" box then component ID and you'll see the parts ID page. It'll give you some good info going in. These parts can get $$$$ so you need to know exactly what your buying. They show the difference in the CJ/SCJ cranks. and tons of other stuff, heads, blocks etc....
Also that's a good price on the CJ crank. They can go .060 but if it's std to .030 and needs a cleanup still ok with no major damage. Heads for $500 not bad either. Check the thumbprints to see how much they've been milled.
