Thanks 69cj....I am still learning my SGII and the xgauges.

You mention the heat soaked 15-20 miles, on level ground at cruising speeds.....is this my only reference point for taking note of ECT/EOT deltas?

.........so, loaded (not me ofcourse) pulling a big trailer up a hill with the a/c on the EOT is obviously much higher along with the ECT. As long as the above you mentioned (heat soaked 15-20 miles, on level ground at cruising speeds) is within specs, it does not matter what the EOT/ECT deltas are in any other scenario with my truck?

This is where I am confused. If you could dumb it down for me

Thanks
Joe

You are correct. Climbing, cresting and descending hills can't be used for true delta readings. My deltas are consistant towing provided I can cruise on flat level ground. Usually if the ground is flat and no head wind the boost will be less than 10 psi.If you have a heavy head wind, once again the delta is invalid.

I have a scan guage and I monitor EOT ECT also. I am getting about a 3 degree spread (but my oil cooler is only 3 weeks old). I would still watch both temp's. Keep in mind coolant can boil at about 225 degrees (o psi) but if you have a good pressure seal it can go up to about 260 (ish). Before my cooler change I was getting a ECT of 190 with a EOT of as high as 221. I took it in and the dealer got a delta of 23 degrees (190 ECT and 213 EOT) either way it was over 15 so I had to replace the cooller. From what I understand it is much better to find out with the scan guage of a bad cooler than when oil temp gets to high and head gaskets, injector, and maybe even engines go......

Now this was unloaded as described for baseline?

That was all baseline... the difference between a 3 degree delta and a 30 degree delta was replacing the oil cooler (it is why we watch the difference) the mechanic only got 23 degrees but I think he did it in the shop using the approved ford test procedure (one of the mechanics could probably tell you.) where my 30 was out on the highway at 75-80 miles per hour in the hot florida sun.
