Just rebuild my 292 had points in it. It was running very rough but always fired up on the right away. I put a pertronix and new coil in yesterday. The trucks runs great and is now difficult to start and heistates to turn over.
Any thoughts why??

Howdy,
That has happened to me on my current truck (when I had the 239 in it) and many years ago when I had my 57 Ford Fairlane as a teenager!
In BOTH cases, I had a couple of plug wires "switched" and the engine "seemed" to run fine!
It was VERY difficult to tell that it was only running on 6 cyls!
Does your truck have the resistance (pink) wire? Some Pertronix and Ignitor coil types have that bypassed iirc, depends. Make sure you have a fully charged battery, too. You almost have to use an outboard charger if you're still running a generator.
Points work OK, but the Pertronix plus one of those flamethrower coils will run WAY better.
