Have you cursed a lot yet? I'd go ahead and do that and get it out of the way. Sorry to hear about your water pump

Is your thermostat good? Don't do what I did and ding the radiator. Put cardboard in there to protect it. I did some curseing but it didn't help. I'm still missing a wrench though.

If you've ever considered doing the dual tensioner mod, this would be a good time to do it.

Thermostat, possibly the housing. Maybe one of those heavy-duty flanges that reinforce the flange on the housing. Maybe a new res cap. Don't forget the SCA (or get pre-charged).

Option - IH water pump with integral filter base.

Is that IH pump hard to install? My pump isn't leaking, but I figure I should replace it, as I don't know the history on it. Temps are good though I just want to get stuff done before winter as I have no shop and outside in the cold sucks.

The one IH Pump has a built in filter head.

If you have to replace the pump, i suggest going with the IH pump, filter or non filter version.

Water pump is a snap if you got the fan removal tool.

few bolts on the shroud. pop the fan off, be sure to block the radiator with plywood.

Well, drain coolant first, make huge mess.

few bolts on the system and whammo, its out.

15 Ft Lbs is the tq on them IIRC.

I can probably change a water pump on our trucks in an hour now after i have the fan and shroud off.

'97 has the cap on the radiator?

Wouldn't leaving the fan off make him hot like you??? (or warmer ...)

I don't see a coolant filter in your sig Mike. Now would be a good time if you want one.
