I have tried to Decode my VIN on a few different occasions, but to get no where with it. FTE won't even do it. I didn't know if any of you would be able to help. Now I wonder if its because its a custom order from the factory. The VIN # is F26GLGJ9419
I will tell you what I know, or was told about the truck. Its a 1980 F250. Came from factory with 1 ton front end, and rear end. Had a 351m, 4spd with granny, and it is 4x4. The engine has been changed to a 460, and the rear end has been swapped.
Its not real important to know what the VIN say's, but why not right
The VIN decoders you will find around online are for the post 17 character change era. One of the guys with the older books will probably be around shortly.
F26 = Series Code = 1980/ F250 4WD pickup
G = Engine Code = 8-cyl 351 cid 2V carb, gasoline-powered
L = Assembly Plant Code = Michigan Truck
GJ9419 = Numerical Sequence of Assembly
If you can post a picture of the certification label on the driver's side door jamb, we can tell you some more....
BTW I'm not aware of any online VIN decoder that works on 1980 or older stuff; and, even then, when they work, they're very often wrong. Online decoders (even Ford's) somewhat suck for some reason.
Thank you For the help. I wish I had a picture to post, but I won't be able to take one untill I get home in Aug. I am more so trying to figure out what kind of TC I have in it. My buddy who is looking after my truck said he would tell me a couple weeks ago, but he hasn't looked at the truck since I gave it to him to look after while I was on R&R back in Dec. Kinda puts a sour taste in my mouth, but I would rather do the work myself anyway.
I am almost certain its an NP205, but I don't know for certain. I am trying to get everything I need for the truck so I can have it done for my wifes, and my vowl renewal when I get home.
