I have a 1961 Ford 2 ton farm truck v-8 that I am rebuilding. I am putting points and condenser in now. I have been having a terrible time finding any information about this truck. What should the gap for the points be set on?
You might be better off checking the dwell angle, which should be somewhere around 27 degrees. Increase the gap on the points, decrease the dwell angle. Decrease the gap, increase the dwell angle.
Chances are fairly good that the same distributor would have been used on other ford car and/or pickup engines of the same size and era. If so, almost guaranteed they would have had the same points, condensor, rotor, distributor cap, and points gap on all of them. Ignition timing could be slightly different between them though, and then again maybe not.
At any rate, should be a lot easier to find this ignition info. for cars or pickups than your 2 ton farm truck. Applying it to your farm truck should get you pretty darn close, if not right on the money.
