My truck (2001) was damaged on 5/18/12 when my cooper tire tread came apart. Everything is fixed 'but' the drivers tow mirror. I want the original mirror style back on there and the repair place put on a 'newer' (?) type style that did not match the passenger side. The pivot pins are very visible and not covered with the 'shielding' as the original. Ford Dealer told me that they could only get the exposed style from Ford as that is all they have. Ford said that they use an after market place called 'Keystone' where I could get the correct mirror. I told this to the repair place and they order the mirror that looks right.... Now the hang up.... the 'new' (correct) mirror has a round plug in and my truck has the rectangle plug in. The repair place said that they would get an adapter and I call them this morning and they said that there is NO adapter for this and that I would have to go with the Same mirror put on before and have odd sides or buy one for both sides....
I looked at RockAuto and Bronco Junkyard and could not figure out the right one, if there is one with the rectangle plug that I need on the 2001 tow mirror. Help me please get the right part number and the right place to get this fixed. I am thinking of telling the insurance company to just cut me a check for the mirror and that I will replace it later when I find the right one.
You could cut the connector off your old mirror so you have a pigtail harness and solder it onto the new mirror that you like. I think the dealer used to have some harness adapters....
I ran a search and came up with some part numbers....not sure what these are but I thought I'd post them just in case it helps you out.
P131/U137 P&A Harness Kit – Left Hand (per package label)
(harness adapter from 7-pin to 2 connectors for power/heated mirrors)
1C3Z-14A411-BA Jumper Harness – (Right Hand per fordparts.com)
JUMPER HARNESS -RIGHT HAND

If you tow a wide box trailer, then I can see why you want your original style since they stick out about 1/4" further. The only problem with that type is they don't fold forward like the newer versions. Believe it or not, I've gotten myself into some situations where I've had to fold my mirrors forward and was glad that I had the newer type.
In case you are curious, here are some measurements I took of the various mirror types a while back.
Fixed mirrors measure 16 1/2" (left) and 15 1/2" (right)
Mirrors that telescope but only fold backwards measure 18" (left) and 17" (right)
Mirrors that telescope and fold both ways measure 17 3/4" (left) and 16 1/2" (right)
Thanks Greg. I do not want to cut the connector off as even with the mirror damaged, I was going to sell it to my Brother-in-law. He has the short mirrors and said that he would buy mine 'as is'. He might notice the connection gone....
So the 'new style' swing forward too? Helps when backing out of the garage door and you catch the door jam...... it will swing away and not break.
I bought a new one off the Internet and it came with a pigtail adapter, but the PO had cut off the one in the door and soldered it up.
I took the adapter and made a new female end in the door.
I'll try to look up where I bought it.

Yep. The original mirrors on my '99 only folded backwards so they got destroyed when I was backing up a trailer through a narrow gate opening. I actually crunched both sides at the same time. Must have been around 2003 or so...
I went to the dealer to get a new pair and they said they only had the two way folding kind. I suppose Ford redesigned the mirror since there must have been other drivers as careless as me.
My F-450 has the extending mirror that only folds backwards and I can tell that I have a little better visibility down the side of my RV when towing with that truck compared to my F250 (which has the two way folding style..). You wouldn't think that extra 1/4" makes a difference but it does.

I did not see that number on the sheet.
My mirrors are not 'heated'. How does that work with what I have?
The 'round' and 'rectangle' plugs are starting to make my head spin.
I ran another wire through a switch, but you can just do nothing if you don't want heat.
There are 2 black wires coming out of the mirror, one is ground and the other is for you to hook your hot wire, The other 3 wires should match your plug in the door.
The one I got had the rectangular plug with an adapter to convert to the round plug.
He also has unheated mirrors, just keep searching.
