If you install a 289 and presumably a modern transmission, you'll need to customize a driveline. I have a C6 behind the 351w....the donor was an F150, so I grabbed the driveshaft & had it cut down by a driveline shop. They added new U joints on both ends...and changed out the rear U joint to match the Ford 9" read end that I'm using. The total bill was around $200.
Almost any time you swap an engine and/or tranny, a custom driveshaft will be required. You'll probably want a newer rear end as well to get a more useful gear ratio and stronger unit. You may need to use the rear sump oil pan and pump from a Bronco for additional suspension clearance. Ford still sells them through their performance catalog, and they are fairly easy to find on Ebay.
Welcome to FTE. Good luck on your truck and as others said we luv our truck pics... Some of us have stuffed Big Blocks in our trucks... I put a Olds 425 Rocket Motor into a '49 back in the early 80's... my current truck has a small block in it...
