Exhaust Questions

I'm new to this side of the forum but i'm in the middle of a engine swap and i'm tossing a 97 powerstroke in my f250. the truck was a roll over and was from a county in Ohio that does not require emissions testing. I've been looking at putting a diamond eye down pipe and exhaust on the truck but the previous owner hacked up the exhaust and had it dumping just after the passenger door. My question is i have emissions testing in my county and I've read that some of the trucks came with a cat on it and i'm wondering how do i tell if i need one? Its getting an E4OD behind it from the same truck and its a 96 single cab long bed 4x4 again i'm not sure about the requirements and i've done some research but i cant find a definite answer. thank you for your time. chuck

Not just some, all of the 94.5-97 powerstrokes left the assembly line with a cat in place.

that's what i was afraid of because this exhaust that's on here is far from stock and far from meeting emissions. Do they sell kits with the cat? Alot of the ones i see use the stock cat in the system.

Order a system without a cat and get a 3-4" high flow cat from jegs they're cheap. Install your system and then have an exhaust shop weld in the cat

yea that's what i'm worried about the MBRP kits don't even show a cat just a muffler and the diamond eye kits use the old stock one. There are some labeled off road and they show the same thing no cat... whats the difference if there both missing a cat wouldn't that make them all off road?

The off road kit comes with the cat delete pipe.

so the rest are just missing a spot were the cat should be that makes sense. So now i need to find my self a cat. and every truck came with them? So what would a cat do for a diesel anyway because their biggest form of polution is NOx and PM and cats don't do anything for either of those so could i use a hollowed out cat because that would be for sure cheaper then a real one.

You can use a hollowed out cat but the junk yard don't/won't sell a cat

I'm sure someone may have a cat they could ship you.

Will the post office let you mail a cat?
