transmission issues
how can you tell a slave cylinder is going out?

You will push the clutch pedal in, and the clutch won't disengage. Or you don't have any pedal pressure/firmness.

i have lots of pressure but my trans is grinding when i let off of the gas pedal, and im trying to narrow things down a mechanic told me that it could be a few different things on the phone

Grinding doesn't sound very good. It it full of oil?
