ok ..... I replaced the clutch in my 86 Ranger 2.9L 4x4 ...After trying various bleeding techniques I've concluded that pumping fluid from the slave up to the master is the best method. I have a nice firm pedal but when I push the pedal, it has a popping springy noise...2 or 3 of them by the time i get to the bottom of the pedal. when i start the truck and put it in reverse i get nothing...as if the slave isnt doing its job, i still have good pedal action but the truck goes nowhere what so ever...no noises no grinding no nothing. ANY thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated, as im am getting frustrated at the thought of dropping the drive lines tranny and transfer AGAIN. Thanx in advance.
When I did the clutch in my 86 I had a friend pump the peddle three times keep it at the floor then open the bleeder. Did this 4 or 5 times then get in the truck, pummp the peddle a couple of times fast and hold it on the floor. Slip your food of the side of the cltch so it comes up fast, as soon is it is up ram it to the floor. I found this made the clutch feel much better.
I have plenty of pressure in the pedal its the popping and squeaking im concerned of...also the fact that the clutch wont engage with plenty of pedal pressure
I would wonder if the clutch is wrong. I would lift up the rear end and put it in reverse. Turn the drive shaft by hand without touching the clutch. Does the engine try and turn. IT SHOULD.
Could be you have the wrong throw out bearing in there. When you reinstalled the tranny did it slip together easy or did you have to pull it together with the bolts ????. Coud be to long or to short of a bearing..
As for bleeding a system here's my way. Get 2' long piece of clear plastic tubing, and half full bottle of Brake fluid. Top off master cyclinder with new bottle of brake fluid slip tubing over end of bleeder make sure it's a tight fit. then open bleeder put other end of tube in half full bottle of brake fluide, Now pump pedal till all air is out of system, then close bleeder and pump up pedal, Should be good to go ...
