2003 Explorer 4.0 L sohc ran fine it had valve cover leak. So while i was fixing that i put new intake o-rings , plug's , wire's , Fuel filter , belt . Now i can't keep it running. It will crank up for a second or two and stall in the morning and then not start unless i hold the peddle to the floor and still only starts for a second or two. don't have a fuel pressure gauge but i have pressure at the fuel rail. Did a old school spark test and it seems to be getting spark. had it running only long enough to throw a P2197 a o2s bank#2 o2s#1 pre-cat stuck lean.checked for vac-leaks with cab-cleaner everything is plugged in correctly. does anyone one have insite to this problem. Please help Thank you
did you ever find out what was wrong with your explorer? i'm having the same problem,i just swapped engines and it only runs with the gas peddle pressed to the floor and only a few seconds at a time
Do you need to hold the accelerator to the floor to get it started? If so, that puts the PCM in "Clear Flood" mode and shuts off the fuel injectors. If that's what it takes to get the truck started, that would suggest that the cylinders are getting flooded with fuel or the fuel is too crappy for the spark plugs to ignite, or the ignition system is too weak for the amount of fuel in the cylinders.
What year is your Explorer and which engine does it have?
My vehicle is a 2003 Explorer with the 4.0 flex fuel engine.I never thought about it but the the vehicle had been sitting about a year before I had this engine put in it and the fuel could be bad.I will try putting new fuel in it. Thanks for the suggestion.
