Anyone ever seen this done on a 302. I don't plan on going TOO crazy with my '76 F100, but there are certain things that I would like to power in my cab and I want to make sure I can power a decent audio system (not slammin' bass or anything) as well as power windows, locks and... if I go completely insane... seats.
I know there's the 3G upgrade and it gets up to 130 amps, but I'm not sure if that's going to be enough. I'm not very good with electrical knowledge. Someone else will be doing all of that for me.
Anything is possible... but its a can of worms as the saying goes. Mounting, belt routing, belt loading (overloading?) and voltage regulation come to mind. The G3 is (I understand) 130 amps. There is a straight bolt in Powermaster at 140 amps (Summit). I believe either of these would power all accessories including a pretty stout amplifier. Suggest you add up your loads (amps) and double check... there is likley a simple single alternator solution.
Right, but I believe I read somewhere that there needs to be some room made for the 130 amp 3G and I'm not exactly sure where I read it or what was needed to make it fit.
You might have to re-clock the 3G case to get the terminals in a better position (the 3G case is slightly deeper), but the actual case isn't much larger than the 1G.
Well, I figure if I can pick up a brand new one, re-clocking shouldn't be a problem since I won't be fighting corrosion and such. This sounds like the best bet.
Snag one from the junkyard for like $20 versus $175+ for a reman. I have come across several that were easily less than a month old before the car was scrapped.
