ok so I have a 73 f250 4x4 with a 91 12v cummins w/ VE pump in it. im just down to wiring before its on the road. I test started it by jumpin wires and it started fine. but wont run for more then a couple minutes. Then wont start but trys to but blows a little black smoke when i stop cranking. I believe its a fuel aeration problem.when I used an electric fuel pump to prime the fuel system by cracking the bleeder and pumping the fuel until the bubbles stop. The lift pump lever doesnt have any resistance when pumping it and everytime I crack the bleed looks like a soda can bubbling over. I cracked the injector while cranking and its getting fuel. Im kinda stumped on what is aerating the fuel. Or if it was my fault and the electric pump aerated the crap out of it. I
Im going to let it sit for awhile and try again.
thanks
The few times I played with mechanical injection on a diesel, I usually didn't see air get past the injection pump. But if air DID get near the injectors, a few cycles cranking and it would be gone, I'd think.
If you're still getting air at the bleeder, you have a hole in the fuel line somewhere and it's sucking air through that.
the elec pump is not the problem you must have a hole somewhere that air is getting in
I run a elec pump on my 12v p pump I know from past experiences the ve pump is a bugger to get primed I have had to loosen all injectors up a couple of turns just to get air through the system it hard to get it out
