I only keep the trucks for 3 to 4 years max so ive never had an issue. Rubbing it down with a clay bar sounds like a lot of work. What would you seal it with? I do run it through a car wash once in a blue moon and knock the love bugs off of it.
I happen to be very **** about the paint on my cars...my annual process (spring/early summer)
Hand wash with a dedicated car wash (not dish soap)
Mother's Clay Bar (yes, it is a lot of work)
Hand-applied Mother's Sealer & Glaze
Hand-applied Mother's Carnuba Wax
Occasionally, I'll also apply a polish like Zymol mid-summer or re-apply the wax.
Then again, I don't take the truck into the woods either.
My truck is no pavement princess at all. They are normally scratched up pretty good in the first year and a half that i have them even though i try to be careful. The palmettos and scrub brush and the fire break roads through some of my hunting grounds are pretty tight fit. I take a scratch over dragging a 250lb boar any day of the week. I may try the clay bar deal this winter but its way to hot now to do that. Already mid 90s here in the day.
