Im a bit confused, u say your axle moves, or do u mean your wheel? Im sorry but you dont have to have the axle in if u sealed up the front end if u really wanted. But the axle shaft will move up and down,ect.. I guess dont know by what your saying is actually moving. Wheel/hub,steering knuckle movement(ball joints). I also agree that most vibrations would be a bent or out of balance wheel, but not always a bad hub can do this as well.
P.S
Just because the parts are new doesnt mean the are good.
when I say i can move my axle, I mean I can literly grab the axle between nuckle and axle tube and lift it up and down. The axle is snug in the spider gear and the carrier bearing is fine. I have new hubs both sides that are good, because when I installed them they cut the movement down alot. I have never felt this vibration till after the hubs went out. Regardless of the vibration, I don't think axles should be able to move about and 1/8th of inch up and down. ball joints are brand new and pressed and the tire, hub, nuckle have no movement. I have already bought the crazy expensive axle joints and will just install them it wont hurt anything as they appear to be original. If thats not it looks like I will keep checking down the line. Atleast i will know its not the axle joints
That much movement in the axle is perfectly fine mine moves at least that much if not more. All the axles are doing is just sitting in there and held in place with snap rings so they dont move in and out past the teeth on the hub. There is no preload on the end like on a front wheel drive car where the nut on the end of the axle holds it tight. So you will have sum play up and down which is normal.
