Cruise Control Does not work!

ok 1992 e150 the cruise control will not function..

I am trying to keep it simple before I dive in to far.

1. there is an open speed control recall the previous owners never took care of

(I am hoping to get this done on friday)

(dealer said it may or may not fix the cruise control but can affect it)

2. since I don't have an owners manual with the fuse layout. I have no clue where to search for the fuse for the cruise control. under hood under dash and number.

Like I said I am trying to keep it simple so I want to check the fuse and get the recall taken care of. then see where I am at.

thanks for any information you can provide.

Jon

ps if anyone has an unused 92 owners manual they would be willing to part with please message me and we will see if we can work something out
thanks

Jon Thomas I'd recommend your purchasing what's called an EVTM or electrical diagrams book for your year/model of van---they're extremely helpful to have around. Here's a nice one, price is right too: 1992 FORD ECONOLINE VAN ELECTRICAL SERVICE SHOP MANUAL | eBay

There are a number of things that could be affecting your cruise control including a fuse, control switches, inside brake pedal switch and the servo itself. The EVTM would be helpful here, showing you the different components.

While your recall situation is in for repair maybe ask the dealership to diagnose the rest of the system too.

Best of luck!

By the way in the Ford manuals and diagrams it is not called cruise control as that is a GM term.
Ford calls it a Speed Control.

Yes, these FORD Speed Control systems are complex & dealers have tester that simulates rear axle Speed Sensor signal while parked. Could be so many things, in addition to components mentioned, the clock spring in steering wheel & plastic connection at end of servo cable are notoriously weak links.

Over 225,000 miles my own '92 lost Speed Control several times. To seized servo, a component hidden under battery shelf & exposed to elements, a broken plastic servo cable end, marginal speed sensor on rear axle that ultimately affected speedometer & worn out brake pedal 'dump' switch. But it never popped a fuse.

However, in the spirit of "trying to keep it simple" suggest Jon Thomas check to see if the cover is still on the inside fuse panel. It's under dash, ahead & to outside of driver left knee. This cover has diagram of fuse numbers inside & '92 Owners Manual ID's only fuse 6 for Speed Control.
