I have just bought a 1984, F150 with a 300 cid 6 and stick 3 speed. I'll be using this off road and would like to change the ignition, carb etc. back to pre-polution control stuff. and maybe add a nice sounding set of duals. I had a new 66 and new 70 with 300s in them and they were both strong. What options do I have? Will earlier stuff fit this year model.
Carburetor with hoses, some hooked up some pluged, EGR valve at the base on front side, several small gizmos attached to the top of the valve cover at the rear that have something to do with the carb, distributor with some type of module sticking out below the cap. I'd just like to have a plain carb and dist setup like I have on my 55. Just like to adjust the carb with a screw driver and set the timing with a plain old timing light, then drive the heck out of it. Things I understand.
If you have a distributor with no vacuum advance on the side of it, I would change it over before something breaks. Not too many people know how to work on the early computerized carb systems. And that's what it would have if the there is no vacuum advance.
I guess that's my question. Will carb and distributor from earlier years interchange? What years would be the best to look for? If I can get an idea what I'm looking for I can take it from there. Thanks again for the input.
