Electrical charge coming from bumper

2000 F150 5.4

I was cleaning the battery posts tonight. I was leaning against the bumper when I touched the positive cable and got voltage into my knee. I have had weird electrical problems occasionally. Any ideas ? Thanks in advance

bumper is grounded to the negative side of battery. If you touch the positive and leak against the negative, it is possible to get a thrill. Especially if you have wet/damp hands or jeans.

There may be an intermediate short some where. You'll have to inspect the cables and wiring for ground shorts, something wearing against a grounding point.

If you're putzing around the battery cables without disconnecting one of them (negative), then the shock you received was the equivalent of a "dope slap" to wake you up.

Put another way, the battery has the stored chemical energy.
Since the negitive post was still connected, it has connection to all metal parts of the truck.
With your hands on the positive post, YOU provided enough LOW resistance to allow current to flow.
Since your human 'i assume' you are able to feel the low amount of current through your body same as a voltmeter would show.
Very specificlly you completed the circuit through you from one side of the battery to the other.
When that is done no matter how, 'electrons' are attracted from the neg side to the positive side. This is current flow you felt.
This has no relationship to your electrical issues.
Do the same on another truck and you will get the same result as long as the same conditions exist..
Good kuck.
