Will 265s fit?

Hi, it's getting to about the time I need to buy new tires for my 2007 F150 2wd, and I currently have 235/70/R17s on. I'd like to be able to buy bigger tires for it for additional ride height and for looks, but I'm not quite sure if I can fit 265/70/R17s. I was once told that you can tell how much larger of a tire you can get if you crank the wheel all the way to one side or the other, and look at how much room you have from your tire to the front of the wheel well. I'm not sure how accurate that is, but I tried it and I could fit my fist in between the tire and the wheel well and had a bit of wiggle room, so I'd say I have about 4 inches of play when my wheel was cranked all the way to the left.
Also, I have a Ranch Hand grille guard, so my ride height is lowered by about 1/2" to 1" less than a normal 2wd.

Any info about how big of a tire I can safely put on my truck would be appreciated,
Thanks.

Yes you can put 265/70/17's on your truck. You may have some slight rubbing but most likely only when turning and hitting a bump at he same time. I currently run 285/65's and I could have put these on without the leveling kit I installed but it just gave it more clearance and the knowledge it would not rub at all.

They will fit with no problem. I ran 285/70/17 for 2 years before buying the level kit, and the tires never rubbed.

Alright, glad to hear they will fit. I was a bit worried they wouldn't because my truck is only 2wd.
Thanks

EDIT:
On another note- does anyone have any idea how much height I will gain from 265s?

The actual height changes with each tire brand. Pick a tire and then go on the manufacturers site and look at that tires specs

I have 265/70 17s on a 2wd and they fit fine. There is plenty of room to go at least one size larger if you want.

Here is a tire size calculator

Alright, thank you. The calculator says I'll gain .83 inches of height going to a 265 from a 235. It's not as much as I'd like, but once I can buy this 3 inch leveling kit, I'll have a pretty good height on my truck.

Also, for anyone just reading and possibly wondering the same as me, when I was at a tire place earlier today, the manager assured me that 265s would fit.

EDIT:
I just thought of something. Should I go ahead and get 5 new tires because my spare will still be 235s? Will something get messed up if I get a flat and have to drive on my 235 with the rest of my tires being 265s? When school is in, I often make 250 mile trips to and from Albuquerque, so depending on where I get a flat, I may be driving on the spare for a 100+ miles.
And on another note, is the spare tire location big enough for 265s?

Thanks

X2 on what Big Sky said. It only really matters on a 4X4 in 4wheel drive

I put 265's on mine and replaced the spare because of limited slip. If you do not have limited slip you'll be okay. Truck looks better with 265's.

Yes you can damage a LSD clutch plates if you run different size tires (whether 4x2 or 4x4) on the rear. If you can't replace the spare, if you get a rear flat and have to drive a ways, put the spare on front and the front onto the rear (if 4x4, you're running in 4x2 mode).

Just beware of the previous limited slip/spare issue. (I wouldn't spend the money on a "new spare", just get a same size decent used tire for the spare. Lots of shops have low mileage "take-offs they'll sell.) Also, yes the 265 will fit in the under-bed spare tire location.

Hey, I was at Sams club and decided to check out their tires, and I found Tire Details - Discount Tire there. I know it's not the sams website, their site is giving me trouble right now. I was looking at them, and they look really big when standing next to a 235/65/17 (I have 235/70/17 currently). I know the comparison tire isn't the same size as my current, but it still seemed quite a bit larger than my current tires. I still think they'll fit though.
Are we sure that that tire will fit?

I asked the guy working there, but I don't think he knew his rights from his lefts, so he basically told me nothing when I asked him if he thought these tires would fit. I didn't have my truck there, so he said he couldn't be sure, but I mean, hes had to have done a truck like mine before, right?

Yes 265 will fit. Also the tire sams club is smaller than what you currently have
