Ken I didn't do a very good job of describing my situation. Have no problem with battery capacity or head lights when driving. Batteries are about 3 years old and are fine with daily driving. Have had alt checked out in last little while and was OK. Challenge is when only driven a couple of times a week for short distances. Wondered if draw from your new lights was much different from my Silverstars?
I am sure the draw is more. The Silverstars use the standard headlight harness plug to operate. The HID kit taps right into the battery with a 30 amp fused circuit. I have not run it on an amp meter yet and if I have a chance, I will try it.
My truck will have a slight hard start when it has sat for a week not being run. This comes from the original Motorcraft batteries and I know I am pushing them on borrowed time. I will need to stick in a set before the winter for sure. I would think new batteries would hold for a few weeks with little to no deterioration in power, especially if run for just a short time. It could be grounds as mentioned, or you could have a slight current draw too.
Thanks for suggestions Guys. Have cleaned all post connections again to make sure that wasn't the problem. Will review some of the chasing current draw posts after I get some of my maintenance work out of the way.
Thank you Ken, I just ordered the same kit in 5000k also and installed it yesterday afternoon. Great tips. I never install anything in just an afternoon (takes me forever to do things) but this was easy. Reps to ya...
I've wanted HID's for a while too now, does anbyody know if the bright box will work with HID's?
You won't need it. When using the Retro kit high beam activates a solenoid that pulls the light further back into the housing causing the light to be redirected. So having low and high beams doesn't do anything since it is only one light.
I've been running mine for two or three years now.
Good deal! I am glad you found it easy to install too. I was impressed by the completeness of the kit.
Yeah I was impressed too. After the el cheapo Optilux fogs and then looking at what I got for what I paid in the Recon cab lights, the Retro HID kit is tops.
What do you guys use the case the lights came in for? Looks like a useful little case!
It would be a useful case I thought ... for lots of things. I was thinking spare mags at the range or something else firearms related ... but then the wife saw it and confiscated for her use. But at least that distracted from the fact that I bought yet another something for the truck
As brought up in a different thread, do you guys have problems with seeing at night with these when its raining/snowing? Just wondering how they reflect light or penetrate to the road. Being in Florida Im not worried about the snow but Rain we get and lots of it so.
