Ok here goes. A have 04 sd 6.0. Egr delete, turbo back 4". I bought a used sct on ebay, was listed as used once on a 6.0 the retuned to stock and sold truck has 3 custom tunes from eric @ innovative. So i bought it. I got it hooked up to the truck and sure enough its unmarried with 4 unlocks left with innovatives tow/brake,street and xstreet on it. Perfect right? So i tuned with the steet tune amd runs real well. No cel from egr delete, so im real happy. I got to work (ford dealer diesel tech) and hooked up the ids just to check codes. It has p0306. Calibration error between pcm and ficm. I figured fair enough since the sct flashes the pcm/tcm not the ficm. Then i noticed the VIN! My pcm is displays the other guys VIN! Wtf? I hooked the sct back up ans it diplays married but still 4 unlocks left. So i think the sct is not VIN locked to my truck. Help! I didnt get a manual for the sct either. Sorry for the long post.
A SCT won't update the Unlocks until you return the vehicle to stock...and...connect to the SCT software, or return truck to stock and then connect it to another vehicle and program
You got lucky that the other guys tunes worked with your PCM (same strategy)
I highly recommend the Gearhead SRL if you plan on purchasing new tunes
edit: btw, SCT doesn't give you the option of downloading the stock tune. It does that 1st before allowing you to upload your custom tune
