For some reason in the life of my truck the right side auto hub has gone out 3 times. Never the left one. Usually it just leaks vacuum internally but this time it is engaging the axle in auto position. Meaning the right side axle is spinning all the time. Once I realized this I locked both sides in. I'll just run it that way for the duration of the trip and grease the U-joints every couple of days. Does anyone know what might cause this? It's just weird to me that the left side is original with 315,000 miles and the right side has eaten 3 in the last 150,000 miles. Just seemed weird.
I would ask if you have gotten a look at the inside of the knuckle.
What shape is the bore in? Corrosion pits in the surface would
kill the seals. I would also bet you have a failed return spring now
or some really bad pitting that things are hanging up on
That is why it on all the time now.
Do a vacuum test and I think you will find it leaks.
Someone said to run a bore hone before you reassemble
the knuckle. I would also use some thing to treat any corrosion
that you may find.
