HOLLEY 4160 FLOODING 351w

i have a 86 f150 lariat with the 351w. the truck had been sitting for about 5 years or so before i bought it.

things i did to the truck to get it running...
-dumped the tanks (the old fuel looked like mountain dew)
-put on a new mechanical fuel pump
-changed the oil/oil filter
-cut off the exhaust at the cat converter & ran a 3" pipe out the side
-put in a brand new holley 4160 carb

so the truck runs like a champ...just floods every now & then. its also still dripping gas in the carb after it dies from flooding. i am not sure what to do...i think its strange that its still getting gas after the truck is shut off. pretty steady drip for about 10 seconds. any tips on how to resolve this issue? this carb does not have the external float adjustment screw or the view port to see the level of the gas...any help would be awesome.

Seems odd that a new 4160 would not have external float adjustment capability, I would think that it would have.

when getting it running, did you happen to experience any backfiring? That can lead to a damaged power valve that I believe could bleed some fuel through a hole it the diaphram.

The "new" 4160's are not externally adjustable. Have to remove bowls to adjust floats.

Hmmm...I just bought a new 4160 in February and it has the external float adjustments as well as the screw you can remove to check level.

Not that it matters...I don't think bowl level is the problem here

You still have dirt and rust flakes in your fuel supply. I hope you have a nice big external fuel filter just before the carb. One of those clear ones would help you see what's going on. All it takes is one little rust flake to stick the float needle and overflow the bowel in the carb. It will continue to drip till the fuel level drops low enough to stop.

X2. And, the fuel pump can keep some pressure on the carb until it leaks off.

(I've typed this so much lately I need to put a link in my sig.) I run two filters on trucks like yours that have sat for some time as they almost always have rust and all sorts of junk in the tanks. I run one see-thru filter ahead of the pump and one between the carb and the pump. I've had to replace the 1st one about once a month early on, and the 2nd one has to be replaced as well since it catches some of the gunk.

Without 2 filters I was having passages in the carb plug up from silt and the accelerator pump would quit. Two filters fixed that, but they do have to be changed frequently.
