electrical problems 84 F150

Hey guys, i am new to the ford world..and i just bought me a 1984 f150 with the 351 windsor engine for 500 dollars. Just rebuilt the carb and am still trying to tune it right. But i have been having electrical problems. Most of the time the engine is on i loose some dash components(Turn signals, sometimes gas gauge, temperature gauge, and wipers). Some times it acts like i have no electrical(headlights, hazards, and cig lighter always work). Everything works when the engine is turned off and the key is in the on position. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!

Welcome aboard buds! Show us some pictures.

When the truck is running try moving the key ever so gently back towards you. It sounds like your battery and charging system are doing well. But I wonder if the spring that returns your key from START position to the RUN position might be weak. I think the lights are not interrupted by the starter. In other words, they always stay on. But most of those accessories are temporarily disabled to get max voltage to the starter.

If it's not that, then I've got no idea

That's a famous problem with these trucks, like he said, lightly wiggle the keyswitch while the engine is running and see if everything comes on.

It could be, but also could not be. You can pull the single wire a 2-wire sensor talks to the computer, don't pull that one off the sensor and ground it; with the ignition in RUN or ACCY, the gauge should swing full-right and will swing full-left when ungrounded. If this test passes, the wiring and gauge are good and the problem is in the sensor.

Out there, but another thought. Does the gauge move at all? Mine will move ever so slightly with the truck running, but never gets to the bracket under NORMAL.

Truck has no thermostat. These trucks are old, and the guy before me didn't feel it necessary to spend the $10 to replace a broken thermo hah.

it sometimes shakes, almost like the engine is making it vibrate haha. but no it doesnt go up at all. where is this single wire thing that you are talking about ctubutis? this is my first major gas engine i have dealt with, my other truck is a diesel.
