Money maker or junk?
Ok, its a 78 F250. "Rebuilt" 73 429, .30 over, 70 D0VE heads. Rebuilt c6, twinstick 205.
BAD - he told me when it gets hot the oil pressure drop to 10 psi. The cab and bed (stepside off a dodge) are rough, interior is trashed and he couldnt start it up when i was there because he pulled the starter, and started to pull the oil pan to check out the low oil pressure issue, but then gave up and its been sitting for 5 months.
GOOD - It has new 38 boggers in the front and newer 38s in the rear. Decent springs and has a 79 Dana 60 front, and a 70 rear.
He wont go below 2k. I figured i could sell the axles for $1200-1400. Tires for $600. Pull the motor and tranny and sell for $400-600. Suspension for $150 And scrap the rest. Sound like realistic numbers? I know i sold a 79 Dana 60/60 set for $1250 a few years ago and the guy drove 500 miles to get them. I have no idea if they are going for more or less now.

He said he'll put everything back together and get it running... the only reason im considering it is I know the axles are worth alot
I wouldn't give him a dollar over what it's worth in scrap all together. If you would decide to buy it, and you want to part it out, worst case scenario is that nobody would want to buy any part of it, and you would either sit on the parts or scrap them and lose money. I just bought a 75 highboy for a parts truck with just a cab and nose, no motor, transmission, divorced transfercase, and axles for 250 bucks, since thats about what that's worth in scrap. I wouldn't have gave him a dollar more for that, and I wouldn't give that guy a dollar over 600 bucks if it doesn't run. if it does run, I'd give him a grand and no more.

the 79 F350 i bought last year for $500 has D-60's front and back, 300 six, 4 speed, clutch, brakes and tires that are all less than 10,000 miles, and a fully functioning aluminum dump/rack body. it even has working air conditioning and a snow plow.
all it needed was transfer case mounting brackets.
it is a 72 frame, so it has a divorced t-case and the brackets rotted out and the case dropped.
i rehung the t-case and put it to work. the only problem with it is the T-case shifter is crusty and will not go into 4 low. but that is nothing a little oil will not fix.

Funny, I had the same issue with your mom. It might be why I call you son, and it ain't because you shine (other than that alien head of yours)
Consider your time, it's a lot of work to part out a truck, cut it up and haul the remains away. Not to mention the mess of stuff the scrap yard won't take, glass, plastic, etc that you get stuck with + it cost you money to cut it up. Your not even getting a matched set of tires in the deal. I've never payed more than $300 for a parts truck with a Dana 60 front.
