A buddy of mine has a 2007 F350 that I helped him check out before he purchased it. He absolutely loves the truck, but here lately it doesn't seem to have much "testicular fortitude".
Here's what was done so far:
-Changed the Air Filter to a Motorcraft filter (was a Wix packed with dirt)
-Changed both fuel filters a few months ago (doesn't drive too much, but just enough)
-Replaced both transfilters
-Cleaned the EGR valve
The truck is fine at lower RPMs (normal driving around town and cruising), but when you mash it to pass someone, the truck can't get out of it's own way.
The boost gauge on the dash is moving and the truck feels worlds better since the air filter change, but what am I missing? What could be causing this truck to lose it's cojones at the top end?
We both agreed that it needed a complete trans flush, but I don't see how that would hold the truck back when you're on it.
Maybe a CAC or exhaust leak. Low fuel pressure. Dirty/binding turbo. Does truck have any gauges? Any hissing noises from under the hood accelerating cold start? Exhaust smell in cab? Might try the blue spring fuel pressure regulator update. Pretty quick and inexpensive and some have posted it seemed to pick up some power.

Truck has no guages, no exhaust smell in the cab, haven't noticed and exhaust or CAC leak, but will check...
My money is on the low fuel pressure for the time being. I don't think it has the blue fuel spring, so I'll have him try that.

Under WOT it's making 20 pounds easily, the last few times there were no DTCs, but after a few tests with my AE, a few may come up.
i second that notion on the blue spring upgrade. if checking CAC tubes, i'd feel for under the boots. if cracks do show up, most of the time, they're underneath. rarely is it visible from on top. i dunno, but my paranoid self might also test the FICM too. ficm, fuel filters, blue spring, they're kinda related. lol.
wat is the eot n ect delta? also, i'd check tat egr valve, and clean it up. if it aint been done yet, i'll bet tat it's nasty dirty. heck, only a snuggy can put "nasty" n "dirty" in the same sentence. lol. punish me. lmao.
Spent the weekend under the hood of a 2007 F-350 and needless to say she's healthy again!
-Reconditioned the turbo, found some rust right underneath the veins, and some on the unison ring. (Not very much, but enough to make it stick.) Slathered the unison ring in anti-seize, gave a light coat to the other necessary parts. Still need to perform the VGT relearn though
-Rebuilt the secondary fuel filter housing, found it clogged with gunk, changed the filter, installed the Blue fuel spring, replaced all o-rings with Ford/International's rebuild kit.
-Found that injector #1 was misfiring causing the truck to run rough and stall. After a call to Clay at Riffraff, we had it the next day. R&R'd injector #1.
-Changed the oil in the truck and added some of Chris Gabrelcik's Hot Shot Secret in case some of the other injectors had any ideas.
-Added a shot of Diesel Kleen to the tank
-Did a complete flush with Rotella ELC
After a good 30 minute drive, the truck was boosting well over 20 pounds and was like a brand new truck again.
