Darrin,My truck has a complete exh exiting behind the tire.Josh's truck has the exact same stuff but in front of the tire.both cc autos with NO sissy a$$ muffler lol. his is a fair amount louder. I am of the opiniom that the couple bends and getting the noise further back is a very large reduction in interior noise. I try not to use my ac and love cruising with all 4 windows down!!!
I hope that helps. Mine is a family vehicle and my girls dont even notice.
I am with you on 4"dp and tunneling the firewall. Ill be right behind you one of these days I hope.
After watching all of the videos that Nate posted from last year, I noticed that you can hear the turbo pretty well, even when idling. I can't hear the turbo in mine at all. It is straight piped with a Banks muffler. It is a 4" with a 3.5" DP. I know the turbo is working because I can feel it when I should, at about 1900-2000 rpms. I also have a homemade 6637 filter setup. I am not too worried, but just wondering why I can't even hear it sing when it should. I could on my Dmax and my Cummins, but not this truck. Even at idle, no dice. Anyways.....
I think you answered your own question Byron. The Banks muffler. The 4" pipe I had on there was literally straight piped with NO restriction in it whatsoever. No muffler, no cat, heck it doesn't even have an EBPV.

muffler?!?!?!?! Im not sure WHAT you mean?!?! hmmmm muffler... OH yea thats that thing on top of the engine that has that spinny thing inside that kills all the noise by chopping it up and making the truck sound awesome..yea I know what you mean lol

Even if a muffler is a flow through design, I've always felt they had to be somewhat of a restriction. Maybe very little, but a restriction none the less. That's my opinion though
Revert back to my post from long ago. I can't hear y'all.......LOL!
Went to my nieces soccer game today and a guy walks up and says his son is looking for a truck just like mine. I said 12k and it's his! He smiled, but I said wait till you hear it! Lol. Needless to say I still have my truck!
Haha Darin! Thanks guys for the input. I thought I would at least hear it a little bit from in the cab. Again, not a big deal. I know it's working. May even work a little more efficient once I get the up pipes fixed in a few months. I'll probably just leave that Banks on there. Thing is HUGE!! My Dmax used to sound like a jet just idling when stood next to it. It was completely gutted though. No muffler or Cat. Cummins was the same. When I would be towing, I could hear the turbo whine on a hill climb or WOT getting on the interstate. Those aren't real diesels though! 😝
Thanks guys. I've always had the thought that any muffler will have a restriction. After seeing some of the flow through mufflers, I'm not sure that is the case. IF it does some, my thinking is the 4"dp with a 5" exhaust and a muffler shouldn't be any more restrictive than the 3"dp and 4" straight pipe exhaust.
I have the same feeling that these things don't need a muffler, but if any of you were in my truck on that last pull, you'd be thinking of putting one on too. I almost always have my dad with me too (not that last time, but still), and he is 67yrs old now, and his hearing is not real good (mines not quite as bad, but not good either). Trying to talk to him in a quiet vehicle is tough enough. It's time to quiet it down.
I knew someone had put a 4" dp on a new turbo recently, it was Ronnie (rodneywar). It will be somewhat of a pita, but that's ok. My carpet really needs to be cleaned too so I'll just strip the inside, get some cutting tools out, and get it done.

IMO, just put a muffler on your 4" system and call it good unless you see a rise in EGTs. This new truck is about the same wheelbase as yours and has a 4" downpipe and exhaust with a muffler. Thing is incredibly quiet. If nothing else I can send you this quiet *** muffler when I get around to putting a delete pipe on there.
Well, my parents are looking for options for a christmas present for me, so I gave them the 5" catback system link.
Travis, I need to get it behind the rear tire also, so I'd need to get some other pipe and bends to do that. I know I could do it cheaper than buying a new system, but if I can get it as a xmas present, that's even better. My cut up firewall has always bothered me since I put the new turbo on last year. I was a little "crude" making room. Putting a bigger downpipe on makes me fix that, plus I think it will help a little.
A few variables making me want to do this. In cab noise, thinking a 5 inch is better than 4 inch if I go with a muffler, oh, and PMS may have something to do with it.
