Sounds to me there's either restriction in the up-pipe (from the exhaust manifold to the egr valve) or the valve itself it's working properly. Might be full of soot and not able to open and close completely.
If you didn't want to wait for the dealer you could easily remove the up-pipe and look inside the egr valve. Might be clogged and you could clean it out and problem solved.
If I remember right there 4 or 5 8mm bolts to remove the up-pipe. It's the same thing you would do to block off the EGR for tuning.
