Today I finally took a trip longer that 20 miles haha....so I thought it would be a good time to do some fuel mileage monitoring. I have a 2011 XLT SuperCrew 5.0 4x4 3.73s, 20's, 4001 miles on the odo when I got home today. I started with a topped off tank of 87 octane and the gas station I use is only about 1/2 a mile from the Interstate I drove today. I drove 180 miles with only 4 of them being non-highway miles. My average speed was 75 mph one way and 80mph returning. The entire highway is up and down with no real flat spots to speak of. Most of the grades are pretty low but there are a couple about a mile long that are steep enough to make it down shift. I used cruise as often as possible.

mpg according to me and my calculator:16.8
fuel used according to computer: 10.4 gal
fuel used according to the pump: 10.8

I believe that if I was on flat ground with the cruise set at 70 I would see a couple of mpg's gained. I noticed that my avg mpg according to the computer where 18 when I got there and 17.3 when i returned. I reset all of my trip and mileage meters before I left and refilled the tank at the same station, at the same pump, with the nozzle inserted the exact same way.

In my opinion the mpg aren't bad considering my cruising speed and terrain, however, it is a tad disappointing . I believe the other gear ratios should also provide better returns.

Overall I LOVE THIS TRUCK!!!!! I love it everytime I look at it and everytime i drive it. The only thing i dont like is the weak stereo, but that project will be underway soon.

I hope this provides some good real info for the folks out there. I'll update again when i take a trip to the beach in June as it will be about a 1200 mile round trip.

 

If you kept you speeds lower and tach at or below 2000 rpm's, you would have done much better, still not too bad considering.

 

That's not bad mileage at all.

 

at 75mph my tach sits at about 2000 rpm if i remember correctly. I just wanted to post some real driving stats instead of the featherfoot 21mpg bull ive been reading. I dont hammer on my truck by any means and with the 3.73's my mpg isnt much different around town because i am not a red light racer. I only said I was a "tad" dissappointed because i guess i was just hoping for a even 18 or so. I can live with this though because i dont take trips very often and i only use about a half a tank of gas a week. I live about 3 miles from work and within 12 miles of anywhere else i frequent. I realize if I drove the speed limit of 70 it would be better, and I mentioned that, but that's never gonna happen

Virtually all engines efficiency improve, once they break in. (rings seat, etc.)

 

I've got 3k miles on mine. I'm showing 15.9 combined.

 

Depends on how many goodies he adds to it.

At 68-70 mph I consistently get between 21 and 24 MPG and that's no Bull! Have the recipes and hand calcs to back it up! It all depends on the setup. Drop your speeds and you will see a marked improvement, and the rest of us will be much safer out there on the highways!

 

umm..no doubt...your in an 2wd supercab ecoboost...i was referring to the 5.0 4x4 screws mainly. 80 mph is the flow of traffic on almost every major highway ive ever driven. i dont need a father, i have one already.

 

Just returned from a 2200 mile round trip from Fl. to Pa and back, never seen a posted speed limit that exceeded 70 mph, 80 is a guaranteed ticket! At 68-70 I keep up with the normal flow of traffic just fine, and with the condition of some of these highways it is not safe to run any faster! 80+ mph is an accident waiting to happen on public roadways. And I agree you don't need a Father to tell you this, when he gets you the Officer will be happy to explain it.

 

Ill agree on the posted speed limits...I've been pulled over more times than I can remember. But oddly enough just warnings... I hope you enjoy that new ecoboost...its a beaut!

 

I ran down the OK turnpike today 75 to 82 MPH from Joplin Mo to OKcity and got 18.4 mpg .The limit is 75 .82 was about 2100 rpm 3.55 gear F150 Screw 4by4.Going across Illinois on I70 at 68 mph I was getting 20.4 with winds .They are capable of decent milage when you try.
