...Remember many people end up needing batteries after an alternator goes bad. Both should be replaced at the same time....
I've never heard that before, what's your reasoning? If you replace the alt and the batteries test good, why should you replace them? If you replace the batt's and the alt tests good, why should you replace it?
I guess lifetime warranty isn't worth it in this case.
Every time I hear Lifetime Warranty I think of Chris Farley in Tommy Boy. That movie will teach you everything you need to know about warranty/guarantees on auto parts.

Unless you are running deep cycle batteries, the factory or replacement batts can't handle a whole lot of abuse. Once you fully discharge em a couple of times, they're usually on borrowed time. If they are new you can usually keep right on truckin for a while.
Never force your weak factory alternator to charge up TWO big batts from somewhat dead...sure fire way to need another new alternator. Alternators top off batts and run the truck, they are not supposed to recharge mostly dead batteries.
I'm not saying that is they test out as good to toss 'em...just test me more than once for a little while. Electronic power in a diesel is vital.
The ford voltage regulators are very sensitive, and I'm not aware that anyone makes a better one. FWIW, I rebuild these myself for about $40 unless the armature rings are worn and then I take them to a local shop that does them for $100. They are very simple.
Hey I am in Hatteras right now and I have my scanner and tool kit with me. If you need help look me up we are in a black/gold 01 (stock) this is excursion heaven.
TD! I drove by the lube shop in Kill Devil last Satruday but you had already went home. I am usually here in Sept. but the kids are in school now.
Thanks Brian! I think I'm good to go, my new alt has held up all week with no problems. And yeah I've seen tons of Excursions. 4 in our campground and lots of Fords fer sure!!
