michelin 20s cracking?

Just curious if any of you guys with stock michelin tires have cracking going on? It's on all four of mine around the outer beads just outside the edge of the rim. My truck is an 11 with only 19,000 miles and thinking about trying to get them warrantied

tires

No problems with mine and I have perhaps 35,000 miles on them. They are holding up fine. I switch rims and tires in the winter up here in Canada but the michelin tires seem to be fine with me.

If they are cracking they should be pro-rated for treadwear and if they need replacing you would get some of the costs back.

I had this happen to me in 1994 and in 2006. It is the reason I will never buy Michelin's again. I'm pretty **** about tire pressure and they crack on me. Once set was replace by Michelin, the second set didn't get a chance. I'm done with them.

The Michelins have a 60,000 mile tread wear warranty.
If the tires are failing short of that mileage, You should be able to get something pro-rated IF they consider your cracks to be a defect.

Michelins are great tires, but they like to be driven, and dont like sitting. of course sun / salt / etc., will accelerate any ill effects associated with rubber. even tho minor cracks are acceptable according to certain criteria, and can remain quite a long time with no change or undesirable results, id still try to get em warrantied just cause you can.

I hope it's not taboo to refer to another forum here, but here's a discussion on the 20" Michelins having some severe issues. Some people seem to have good luck with them and others are seeing severe disintegration at very low miles. So, you're not alone with having cracking issues.

Mine lost tread chunks when I first got the truck, lots of us had issues right away playing with all the power.

Never heard of folks losing sidewalks though. I hope everything works out....

They are great on the highway. Not so good in clay or mud! Had to take a farmers road in a rain and almost ended up in the ditch. The truck was sliding sideways going straight and there was almost no control to keep it on the road. I was going slow. Good thing I don't go off roading!

tires

The Mich's are only all-terrains so not good in the mud or off road. And they are marginal in the snow as well. I got stuck where I should not have gotten stuck the first winter so I switched to a pure snow tire and that made the difference. Living in Ontario we sometimes can get the snow....Oct to Mar...Apr so having snow tires means moving or sitting and shovelling. I still prefer a good limited slip diff though. The locker has its moments though.

My Mich's are holding up for the clear road driving with no issues. I will need to replace them after this season though. I seem to like driving the rig. By that time I will have the winter rims and snow tires on getting ready for another winter season. No cracks or visible defects so am happy with them overall.

BTW, I am always getting comments on my truck. Today I was getting diesel the truck was just a bit dirty (it is raining) and some guy was driving an F-350 but not the new engine. He stopped for diesel too! Talk about a loud engine. I saw him looking at my truck, like when a guy sees a beautiful girl and just sighs and wishes if only. Finally he just said, "What a nice rig." I said thanks, drove off and I thought I may have seen a tear in his eye with wishful thinking.

My stock michelin tires have been pretty good, only 14k on them, no cracks or anything. I kinda like them for being stockers

I recall reading that using any tire dressing on the Michelins will result in the cracking.

OP, have you or a shop used tire dressings on your Michelins?

I have not used any tire dressings and have 0 sidewall cracking on my '11 purchased just over a year ago.

tire dressing

I have used tire dressing on my tires for 18 months and no cracking. And I shine them up lots. I would think if that was true than the tire dressing companies wouldn't be in business very long. It is probably actually good for them since it is like a conditioner as well. That is my .02 cents

Thanks for the input guys. Ive only put tire dressing on once in the 2 years I've had the truck. And I don't drive off road or in salt. The weird part is my tread is wearing pretty good for the most part
