michelin 20s cracking?

Gruntorque ..... timely post. Two weeks ago noticed cracking at the beads on all 4 tires identical to your pic. Have already been to the dealer and they have warrantied them to 60% meaning 4 new ones will cost me 40%. No explanation given but at least they are warrantied. Good service from the dealer IMO. I have 34K km's or about 20K miles. Never used tire dressing products.

I visited my dealer today with 2,100 miles on my truck and showed them a case of cracking that was only 20% as bad as this picture. The dealer said that this is normal and that there was nothing that they could do. I then visited my local tire dealer and he called Michelin. An hour later I am driving down the road with four fresh tires. Tire dealer said that this was weather checking and that there would be no problem getting a new set. Replaced with no charge to me.

I noticed the same thing on my fronts the other day, and said something to Discount Tire guy, as I was there to get them rotated and he said that was normal for Michelins and nothing to be concerned about....
As soon as I can get the boss to OK it, I am slapping on BFG All Terrain T/A KO's

After 18k miles my michelins were worn down to 4/32 tread and the rears were chunking.
Chunks of rubber had cracked off the tire and were missing. Instead of having the tires replaced with the same crap I opted for some nitto trail graplers. Good tires, a little noisier, but so far holding up great.

Crap....
And I have had good luck (knocking on wood here) with them too.
I went through Pirelli Scorpions (split side walls), Kuhmo's (separated belts) and one other brand I can't think of at the moment due to the stress I put them under with the weight of the camper, on my last truck. But the 2 sets of BFG's held up great...

Having purchased 8 brand new vehicles over the last 17 years, all but one have been furnished with tires from the factory which were GARBAGE in every respect.
I'm not sure that I expect any different of these tires. Hopefully I can stand them for 3-4 months until I can justify putting winter boots on 'er.

OEM tires
My experience is that usually the OEM tires are not the best grade as the manufacturer is still looking to cut costs in some areas. Aftermarket tires are usually a more premium tire. I am going to need new tires soon as the Michelin LTX 2's on my Lariat are nearing the end of their tread life. They have been okay tires as far as OEM's are concerned. Will ask for opinions on another replacement tire for summer tires. (I have snow tires on rims already) Was thinking of those Nitro tires I have been reading about here but will investigate further to see if they are a good tire. Don't want an aggressive tread as most of my driving is on the paved roads.
