Ok I am 15 and looking for my first car. I am getting a truck and I have always loved Ford the best. I have found a 1975 f-100 with a 360 in it. It is not pretty but I am more interested in the motor. Is it worth buying and using for a while then converting to a 390 or what? It is $1000 by the way.
Brandon, part time is ok with your age but the thing is...is the work steady enough? Will they eventually let you go because their job isn't working so well?
I know you dream of having one. I use to be like you. I worked at a grocery store part time. I got my a dependable way of going WHICH also was cheap on gas and got my 79 4x4 for a project truck.
My first would be how "ugly" is this truck? are we talking it need's a fender & a paint job or are we talking like it need's a whole new body dropped on it? around my area a grand is about the going price for a running driving rust bucket 4x4. My 76 was a total rust bucket that I've swapped body's on and the part's really do add up fast when you start throwong money at it. my advice is if it needs a new body walk away from it save up over the summer & find one that mite cost you a little more but is not needing a ton of work to be a safe & clean driver.
You left out a fairly important item. It appears to be 4wd.
If it's not got a lot of rust thru, and runs decent, it should be worth the asking price. Just don't expect to get more than 10-12 MPG with it.
If I were you man. I would get it cheap and find another dependable ride with good gas mileage and work on that Ford right there over time. You can work on it and also have another way of going.
whats the other side look like? same as driver's? check the cab mounts, drip rails, around the windows, and the cross rails under the bed. But yea from the looks of it the asking price dont sound to bad. I see a lot of sanding in your future. LOL
I'm this from experience, it'll be a lot funner if you also have a reliable driver while you work on it. Not long ago I was told this by many people and just thought they were pansies but its the truth, at the same time I wouldn't change a thing about the years I spent learning that lesson get it for cheap, pour your heart, soul, and pocket book into it. You'll cuss at it, you'll hate it somedays but its the greatest.
Yeah cause it looks like it needs work on it. You will drive it then something will mess up then you will be without a ride. Thus is why we say get something dependable and get that truck for a project...somethin you and yer folk can mess with.
