Happy Father's Day to my fellow AR Chapter dads. Hopefully your getting to sleep in late and take an easy day. I'm not so lucky...fixing to head out the door to work.
Nice looking car. I like that blue. My boss drives a new focus. He averages around 34 with it.
Still getting used to it, when I turned down the road coming home this afternoon it thought "who in the world is at my house"...maybe I need more sleep? I'm hoping she'll get at least that...if not better in the mileage department. If you believe the EPA sticker (we all know the government never lies), some Focus get 29 while others were getting 45 mpg; thus the 38 average. The computer said it had 340 miles to empty yesterday when the dealership filled it up...and the tanks only 12 gallons; 28 mpg by my math. We shall well it does...going to make a little 60 mile round trip in the morning with it.

It's a 6-speed slush box. My wife wanted a VW Bettle, I told her it would have to be a diesel. She turned her nose up to that a first. Then I told her I don't speak German, and I'm not to hip on the VW dealership here in town. Well we agreed on a small Ford sedan; I've been told to keep my laptop (and the AE) away from her new car after the a/c issue last summer in the Honda.
The Fiesta with it's 1.8L claims 39mpg average, while the Focus with it's 2.0L claims 38mpg. I didn't think that single mile per gallon was that big of a deal. But like I said, where it was assembled...that was what made the difference to me. Seen way too many manufacturing jobs go to Mexico to buy a car built in Mexico. I don't care if Ford's name is on both ends of it.
My wife gets 35 -36 out of her Focus all the time. On the interstate you can get higher if you keep your speed down around 60-65. She drives a good mix of town and highway and gets good mileage all the time.

Yeah, if you slow down...we're talking about my wife. I don't remember off the top of my head, but is your Focus a slush box or gear grinder? We took it to Poteau & back today and the on-board computer claims we were up to 28 mpg at one point. Like I said, we shall see if it gets the advertized numbers on the sticker.

It is an auto. I tried to teach my wife to drive a stick but after she almost killed my 88 Ranger I decided she needed to stick with autos! The longer you drive it the better the number on the computer will get. Ours did that too. We sat in the lot at the dealer for 15 minutes with the engine running while the salesman showed us all the bells and whistles. It took some time driving to get the mpg on the computer up because of that. It probably won't get 38 but it should at least get 35.
We just got the Soccer Mom ride out of the driveway, she wasn't a fan of the stereotype that came with driving it. She drove it because the price was right (Free!). But when the chance came along to get something newer/new she jumped on the Focus. The little thing will get out of it's own way, not lacking on the power that's for sure.

You can reset the trip computer so that it's more accurate. I'm curious if the computer is close or it it's off like the one on the Pavement Princes. After a couple of tankfuls I hope to get a better idea of what the car can/will do on fuel. Too bad Ford doesn't offer the Fiesta EcoNetic (1.8L Turbo Diesel) here in the states.
We're still trying to figure out the Sync and some other minor issues with the Bluetooth. It's amazing what all is crammed into this little car.
2146 miles since last Thursday. 20.7 mpg cumulative over that time.
Was expecting a couple mpg better than that, but I haven't even changed the oil yet. Pretty much went straight off the dealer lot onto vacation. Performance has been flawless and it rides and drives much better than our old windstar.
The vans computer mpg is spot on with the hand calc.. Nothing like our trucks
I think the whole mis-reported mileage on the PSD trucks goes back to the hybrid system between the engines & chassis. Any big box store can read the CEL codes of a gas powered Ford; but take a PSD to them and most have havoc trying to pull the engine spec codes (or at least with the 6.0L it's an issue). I'm not complaining about the calculations when you consider the PCM is figuring this stuff up a couple of hundred times a minute (believe that's the time measurement) and only fraction off is compounded over the next million plus calculations until you reset the overhead display.

Think if you slowed it down a little it might get better?
For the record, the calculator in my truck was pretty close in the pre chip days. It's the electronic tuning that messes with them I think.
Maybe it's a 6.0 thing then. Mine has never been right on with the hand calculated numbers...usually a MPG over what is actually going on and it's factory tuned. Pretty much everyone I've talked/seen post in the 6.0 forums are seeing the same thing basic numbers.
The question will be, once I get the Princess back together with her select updates & upgrades ()...how much will the MPG improve? I've started to put parts back on (oil cooler & intake)...except the turbo. I can't get the exhaust housing off so I can clean up the vanes. Penetrating oil has been applied twice to the seam where the marmon clamp was/used to hold the two halves together. I haven't given up, but it will be nice once I can move on beyond this stage of the project.
